Kids in the Kitchen

More Flour or Water?

I made crepes on Friday.
The kids LOVE them.
They are time consuming and they wanted to help.

I needed to find something to occupy them
since I don't want them around an open flame.

Flour and water were the first thing to come to mind
as they are cheap staples in the kitchen.

I put equal amounts of flour and water in a bowl.
They quickly dove in!
I dumped it on the counter so they could knead it.
Action shot! They were moving so fast! ;)

DOS asking for more flour here.

I asked them if it felt like playdough.
I asked them if they needed more water or flour.

They figured out quickly too much water would make everything stick to their fingers.
Poor TRES. She always wanted more "agua" (water).
Kneading again.
After many trial and errors, they were very happy!
UNO, Look ma it's not sticking!

The end results!
I am actually prepping them to make tortillas-
since Wela is coming to town next month...
 she may need helpers!

And they will be alot yummier than this!!

DOS is very serious when using a knife!
This recipe was super fast and easy!
We will definitely be making these all summer!

DOS' again... very serious!

Homemade Crepes and Fruit Salsa
We ended up cutting our fruit instead of following the recipe.
(I also made the Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips for snack the following day! YUM!)
The crepes still need perfecting!
I'm getting better and faster at making them!
DOS' asks for them daily! (Seriously... she does!!)
They do make a great snack anytime of the day.
I usually double the recipe and freeze the leftovers!

No pictures please!

Hot Bread + Butter = YUMMY SNACK
The bread was my first attempt!
It was good but I think I rushed it since it was for dinner.
Next time I'll start earlier in the day and give it enough time to rise properly.
Oh... and close the window in the kitchen!

Kids in The Kitchen...LOTS OF THEM!

Today I hosted a Kids in the Kitchen Cooking Camp. I recently attended a friend's Pampered Chef party and told her I would have a show.

Well with three kids, ages 3 & 1/2 and under, I knew I had to get creative on this one! I called and told Crystal, the "Pampered Chef Lady", I needed to schedule it during the day and hopefully make it a playgroup and then I threw her the idea and she loved it.

The menu was simple and Crazy Caterpillars and Double Decker Quesadillas...and for dessert-
A Chocolate Smores' Cake that was pretty much
one of my psychotic stay up until the wee hours of the morning ideas that I cannot get out of my head
delicious!!

The kids had fun...

and so did the moms!

Chocolate Crown of Thorns

Today we made these super-duper easy Chocolate Crown of Thorns.  I saw them on a post from Catholic Icing and knew they would be a messy fun project for UNO and DOS.  Evann from Homeschool Goodies also said to add eggs to it to transform it to a bird's nest!

All you need is Baking Chocolate and Pretzels.
I just followed the directions for melting the chocolate.
I lined a baking sheet with wax paper and drew a circle on the back side.
I was thinking the circle would be easy for the kids to "shape" the Crown.
UNO stirring the pretzels and chocolate...
BUSTED!
DOS added her pretzels...one at a time...YAWN!!!
TRES looking on with a red star sticker stuck to her upper lip...too cute!
I made this one earlier in the day.
Our crown of thorns

NOTE: Less is more.
The one Evann made was thinned out a lot better than this one but hey...
It was my first one.

UNO and DOS ended up eating their bowl of chocolate covered pretzels, while watching an Easter Video...which was ok with me.

I LOVED this idea and look forward to making this one of our Holy Week Traditions.
